London's newest budget hotel chain

A hotel chain that promises to offer a power shower and a comfy bed but charge for extras such as room cleaning and air conditioning is marking its arrival on the London hotel scene with 1p-a-night room deals.

Tony Fernandes, the man behind low-cost long haul airline AirAsia and a string of budget hotels in Malaysia and Indonesia, is to launch his first UK Tune Hotel in Westminster in August.

And to celebrate the opening, there will be a series of 'TuneDays', where the already cheap accommodation will be cut to just one penny a night when booked online.
Fifteen more of the hotels - dubbed a '5-star sleeping experience at a 1-star price' - will open in the Greater London area by 2017.

Tune is the private investment group of Mr Fernandes, founder of low-cost airline AirAsia and team principal of the Lotus F1 motor racing team.

The deal involves a partnership between Tune Hotels - part of the Tune Group - and London-based investment group Queensway.

The hotels, which offer rooms starting as low as £2 per night in Malaysia and Indonesia, do not have such facilities as conference rooms, swimming pools or gyms, with guests using a pay-as-you-go system for energy-consuming amenities.

Touching Story : Starfish

Every simple action can make a big difference

'kite' designed to collect power from deep sea currents

A new type of ‘underwater kite’ tethered to the ocean floor will be able to produce enough electricity to power 10 homes.

The kite, known as Deep Green, uses turbine attached to a wing and rudder which is tethered to the ocean floor by 100 meters of cable.

It uses kinetic energy from the waves which it converts into power. Each ‘kite’ will be able to produce 500 KW of power once fully operational.

Developed by Saab spin-out Minesto, the project has just secured €2 million from investors to fund testing scheduled to start in 2011.

The firm claims that ‘Deep Green’ can operate efficiently at sites with low current speeds and also at greater depths.

This would mean that tidal energy could be collected in new stretches of sea water.

The company hope to begin trials of a scale model in 2011 at Strangford Lough, in County Down, Northern Ireland -- which is already home to a commercial tidal power device operated by UK renewable energy company, Sea Gen.

Minesto believe ‘Deep Green’ will be available within four years but engineering challenges remain.

For example, researchers are still not sure how large sea animals such as dolphins and whales will take to the devices being tethered in their domain.

Lunch alongside white sharks!

If you’re looking for the ultimate nautical gourmet experience, then ship-wrecked restaurant ‘Cargo Hold’ is one of the more remarkable options. The ‘Cargo Hold’ restaurant is built in a replica of South Africa’s legendary ghost ship ‘The Phantom’ and masterfully incorporated into the famous uShaka aquarium. As you lunch on oysters and seafood in the cool dark interior of the ships’ stern Durban’s finest marine life – including their famous sharks – will drift pas t he windows.

And to give it hat shipwrecked feel, much of the famous aquarium lies below the boat and one of the water rids runs right through it. The ship will no doubt evoke memories of the May ghost stories that pepper South Africa’s coastlines. Legend has it that at the turn of the last century the Phantom ship was sighted sailing into Durban harbor from a southerly direction.

At dusk it rounded Durban’s Bluff headland with just one blue-green light swinging at the fore. Ship’s stevedores waited for the vessel –described as a stern ship with a black and scarlet funnel and two masts to enter the harbor, but it never did. Weeks later it appeared in the same place, yet even closer to shore. It seemed to have no name, answered no signals and flew no flags. Some said it was lost, others said it was on a secret mission. And with no conclusions reached the boat became ingrained in locals minds as The Phantom’

How children under two can benefit from going to nursery everyday

Many working parents feel guilty about leaving their children in nurseries. But they may not need to worry. According to one academic, children can actually benefit by spending hours away from home each day.

Kathy Sylva, professor of educational psychology at Oxford University, said that in nurseries of an average to high standard, children who start attending under the age of two go ton to form better relationships at primary school. She said her research shows that nursery does the ‘vast majority’ of children under two no harm at all. Professor Sylva bases her claims on data from Effective Provision of Pre-school Education project, the largest study in Europe on the impact of early education and care on development. In has followed the progress of 3,000 children since 1996.

The findings will come as relief to guilt ridden parents after a flurry of previous research suggesting a link between early nursery attendance and aggression in later childhood or impaired social skills. Professor Sylva, who has carried out various studies on the subject, said. ‘A lot of parents worry unnecessarily about this issue but my research shows that the vast majority of children are to impaired on any measure by attending nursery under the age of tow.’ She said she received regular calls and emails from parents anxious about the possible negative effects of nursery in their child. ‘I tell them that the research shows that the vast majority of children under two in nurseries are fine.’

Professor Sylva admits her own research shows that some children placed in nurseries before the age of two shows ‘slightly higher’ levels of aggression at primary school. And three years ago, she was involved in Government-funded research while found that children at nursery full-time were ‘more likely to display attending. But she said that any higher aggressions levels disappear by the time the children reach 11. Her standpoint leaves her at odds with other experts such as Dr Penelope Leach who claims that children under tow develop better, both socially and emotionally, at home, preferable with their mother.

9 foods for headache treatment

As the peoples lifestyle is being changes over the decade the problem of headache is quite normal. As per the blog posted on womansday.com the 9 foods that help you overcome sudden headaches are:

1. Baked Potato

The side you love with dinner could help soothe your aching head, especially if your headache is alcohol-related, says Erin Palinski, RD, a registered dietician in private practice in New Jersey. “Since alcohol is a diuretic, it can not only cause dehydration, but also cause you to lose electrolytes such as potassium,” she says. “Eating potassium-rich foods can help to alleviate hangover-related headaches.” Surprisingly, a baked potato (with the skin) is one of the most impressive sources of potassium, containing a whopping 721 mg. By comparison, a banana serves up 467 mg.

2. Watermelon

Dehydration is a major cause of headaches, explains Stella Metsovas, BS, CN, a nutritionist in private practice in Laguna Beach, California. So instead of popping a pain pill next time your head throbs, consider reaching for water-rich foods, like watermelon. “The natural water contained in both fruits and vegetables contains essential minerals, like magnesium, that are key in headache prevention,” she says. Try this tasty, hydrating watermelon smoothie: In a blender, combine 2 cups seeded watermelon chunks, 1 cup cracked ice, ½ cup plain yogurt, a drizzle of honey and ½ tsp grated ginger. Blend and enjoy. (Bonus: The ginger can help ease headache-induced nausea symptoms!) Other foods with high water content include berries, cucumber, melon, soups, oatmeal, tomatoes and lettuce.

3. Coffee

Java has been a folk remedy for headaches for centuries, but does it really work? Yes, but in moderation, says Palinski. “Alcohol can cause blood vessels to expand, exasperating headaches,” she explains. “Since the caffeine in coffee is a vasoconstrictor, it can help alleviate a headache by helping to reduce the size of the blood vessels.” But hold off on the triple venti. Too much coffee could make matters worse. “Caffeine is also a diuretic, which can increase dehydration and increase the severity of a headache,” adds Palinski. “The bottom line: One cup of coffee may be helpful for decreasing hangover-related headaches, but drinking coffee throughout the day would not be the best choice for curing a headache.”

4. Whole-Grain Toast

Low-carb dieters beware: Too little carbohydrates and you might bring on a headache. “When you follow a low-carbohydrate diet, you begin to deplete glycogen stores, which are a main source of energy to the brain,” says Palinski. “This also causes an increase in fluid losses from the body, which can trigger dehydration. By reducing energy to the brain and causing dehydration, these low-carbohydrate diets can trigger headaches.” When one hits, consider reaching for healthy carbs, such as those found in whole-wheat bread, oatmeal, fruit or yogurt. Bonus: A healthy boost of carbs may also improve your mood, as they help your body to release serotonin, the feel-good hormone.

5. Almonds

According to past research, magnesium, found in almonds, may protect your body from the brunt of a headache by relaxing blood vessels. Migraine sufferers may also experience relief by following a diet rich in magnesium, some experts believe. “To increase your magnesium intake, try consuming magnesium-rich foods such as bananas, dried apricots, avocados, almonds, cashews, brown rice, legumes and seeds,” suggests Palinski.

6. Spicy Salsa

Can you say caliente? It may sound unusual, but spicy foods such as salsa and hot peppers may help you snap back from a headache faster. “Depending on the type of headache, spicy foods may be helpful,” says Palinski. “If a headache is due to sinus congestion, spicy foods may help to decrease congestion and open the airways, helping to decrease pressure and the accompanying headache.”

7. Yogurt

When your head is pounding, your body may be calling out for calcium, says Metsovas. “The brain depends on calcium to function efficiently,” she adds. “Make sure you are consuming calcium-rich foods, like fat-free plain Greek yogurt, which is a great source of calcium, with no added sugars and beneficial probiotics for your gut.”

8. Sesame Seeds

Sprinkle them on salads, in oatmeal or on top of soups and stir-fries. Why? These tiny seeds pack a big nutritional punch. “Sesame seeds are rich in vitamin E, which may help to stabilize estrogen levels and prevent migraines during your period,” says Palinski. “It also improves circulation, which helps prevent headaches.” Bonus: Sesame seeds are also rich in magnesium, which may give them added headache-preventing power.

9. Spinach Salad

What worked for Popeye may work for your headache. “Spinach has been shown to help decrease blood pressure, prevent hangovers and may help to alleviate headaches,” says Palinksi. “Try using spinach leaves instead of lettuce for a headache-preventing power salad.” This summer salad is packed with headache-soothing foods: Toss together 2 cups spinach leaves, 3/4 cups cubed watermelon, 1/2 cup chopped dried apricots and 2 Tbsp chopped walnuts or almonds, and drizzle with raspberry vinaigrette.

Funny website addresses revealed in new book

Justify Full
An author has spent the past four years scouring the internet for the world's most unintentionally funny URL website addresses. Andy Geldman has now compiled his results, which include a music site called mp3shits.com and wine site ipwine.com in his latest book.

'Slurls: They Called Their Website What?'
Features over 100 amusing URLs - normally created when businesses did not consider the impact of removing spaced from their name.
For example, Who Represents, can't have noticed the other meanings whorepresents.com might have. Nor can programmers site Experts Exchange, or expertsexchange.com. In odd news we know exactly how easily this can be done... we almost used News Hits, or newshits.com before we settled on NewsLite. Andy said: "With over hundred million websites already registered it's extremely unlikely that a business will get their first choice of address.

In fact, they'll be lucky to get their second, third or even hundredth choice. There have always been unintentionally funny names, but the internet takes it to a whole new level. It's all because you can't have a space in your URL. A business called IT Scrap if fine the real world but not so great online with itscrap.com!"
